Fundraising soared to record levels and limited partners became more active as dealmakers, signing on to co-invest in many of the biggest deals. But now with credit harder to come by and the mega firms set with capital, LPs are trying to figure out what direction to take.
Is it perhaps time to move away from big buyout funds and concentrate on distress or middle market funds? Is it time to perhaps focus more on venture capital funds, both existing and emerging? Is it time to back managers moving into foreign locales such as India and China, or Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Middle East? And, more importantly, what kind of returns should LPs be expecting?
These questions will be front and center at the 2008 Private Equity Analyst Limited Partners Summit.
